Amsterdam viert deze zomer EuroPride 2016. Ook het Stadsarchief Amsterdam en Jonge Historici vieren mee. Amsterdam ziet zichzelf als tolerante stad, maar hoe is dit terug te vinden in het Archief? Welke problemen heb je als onderzoeker van de Amsterdamse LGBT-geschiedenis? En wat kan je als Archief doen met dit onderwerp? Jonge Historici stelt deze en andere vragen op het evenement: Queering the Archive.
We openen het evenement met een introductie door Graeme Reid, directeur van het LGBT-progamma van Human Rights Watch. Reid was tevens de oprichter van de Gay and Lesbian Archives of South Africa.
Jonge Historicus Guido Leguit, die de komende maanden onderzoek doet naar de problemen en mogelijkheden van het ‘Queeren’ van een archief zal zijn bevindingen in het Stadsarchief Amsterdam aan ons voorleggen.
Daarna volgt een paneldiscussie tussen Thijs Boers (Conservator Amsterdam Museum), Arnold van den Broek (Beleidsadviseur Diversiteit Gemeente Amsterdam) en Lonneke van den Hoonaard (Directeur IHLIA). Tijdens deze discussie is er nadrukkelijk ook ruimte voor het publiek om een bijdrage te leveren en vragen op te werpen. De presentatie en moderatie van de discussie is in handen van Axel Boomgaars (Fractievoorzitter GroenLinks Amstelveen).
De voertaal van het evenement is Engels.

Jonge Historici presents: Queering the Archive
This summer, Amsterdam is celebrating EuroPride 2016. The Amsterdam City Archives and Jonge Historici are joining in on this celebration. Amsterdam projects itself as a tolerant city, but do the materials in its archives support this? What problems does a researcher of Amsterdam’s LGBT history encounter? And what can the City Archives make of this subject? Jonge Historici asks these questions by organising the event: Queering the Archive.
The event will begin with an introduction from Graeme Reid, Director of Human Rights Watch’s LGBT program and founder of the Gay and Lesbian Archives of South Africa.
Jonge Historici’s Guido Leguit – who will spend the next few months researching the opportunities and difficulties associated with queering an archive – will then present his findings in the Amsterdam City Archives.
A panel discussion between Thijs Boers (Conservator at the Amsterdam Museum), Arnold van den Broek (Diversity Policy Adviser to the City of Amsterdam), and Lonneke van den Hoonaard (Director of IHLIA) will follow. The audience will be more than welcome to put questions to the panel and contribute to the discussion. The discussion will be presented and moderated by Axel Boomgaars (Chairman of GroenLinks Amstelveen).
